Kitchen Update #11

The stove is in and working! I had to change the gas line to make things fit but it only took two trips to Lowe's! For breakfast I made scrambled eggs, perfect blue flame. For dinner we made a meatloaf and baked potatoes! REAL FOOD again!

We also had a cap made for the pony wall by the kitchen door. Its a great place to put your iPhone and keys when you come home. Randall Hankins, a local artist made it for us, and it turned out awesome! Randall makes some really cool stuff, if you have time check out his blog to see some of his work.

Lagoon Park!

We went to Lagoon on Monday and it was raining like crazy. Emily and I hit all the major rides (in the rain). We had a blast! Nothing like riding the new CANNIBAL Coaster having rain hit your face at 70 MPH!

We are almost done! The new Gas Range/Oven should be delivered this week!

Kitchen Update #9

July 22, 2015 - The flooring was completed last week. Pergo had a recall on the flooring that we picked out so we had to change plans and pick from what Lowe's had in stock (in order to meet our cabinet install dates). Lowe's did give us a great deal on the new floor and we were able to have it put in the hallway too! It turned out really great.

Painting was finished on 7/10 by Shawn's Painting and Home Improvement. Here's how it looks...

Kitchen Update #7

Drywall, mud and sanding is done. Painting will start on Friday and the new flooring should be installed next week. I think we will be ready for the cabinets on 7/22.

Feels like we are on the home stretch now that the drywall is up. Hopefully it will be ready for painting next weekend.

Kitchen Update #5

Ready for drywall today! The South Wall where the sink will go. The plumbing is fixed. No more goofy uncapped drains.

We added the insulation for a sound blocking between the bathroom and the kitchen.

Kitchen Update #4

Can lighting is installed. We are trying out three different LED lights. We are going with the Sylvania LED light, its the one near the corner of the room. All of the yellow romex wiring is new, more power outlets for the countertop work area and the wiring is ready for the under cabinet LED light strips.

Today's nightmare, plumbing. The lower drain was cracked so I'm going to remove all of the items in the green box and just have a single drain.

Kitchen Update #3

Removed most of the drywall to prep for complete redo of the electrical wiring. Adding USB outlets, GFI protection, Dishwasher outlet and ISE outlet, under cabinet lighting, Can Lighting in the ceiling! Lighting was always a problem in the kitchen but not any longer!

New drywall should be installed on 7/3/15.

New Subfloor is ready thanks to my big brother Mike Nikolaisen! We completed this in a few hours on 6/25/15. All new 3/8 plywood subfloor. It's solid, no creaking floor noise like we had. :)

The new Pergo floor should be installed on the week of 7/13.

Kitchen Update #1

Started removing the drywall to expose the wiring. This will allow us to add GFI outlets and a few with Power outlets with USB ports for charging your iPhone/iPad, etc. So once the drywall has been removed I'll try my hand at a little framing work. Most of the subfloor is gone too!

Start date for the kitchen remodel was June 1, 2015. We moved in to our house almost ten years ago. At that time we said we would update the kitchen soon. Soon turned out to be almost ten years. So our kitchen remodel is off and running. I'll post updates as we move along.

Thanks to Taz and Emily we made short work of removing the cabinets and old floors (both tile and linoleum). I'm thinking the subflooring will need to be replaced too. Suzanne and I have picked out the flooring, paint color and cabinets. We put a deposit on the cabinets today! Cabinet install date is scheduled for July 7th if we are ready.
