July 29, 1994: Videogame Makers Propose Ratings Board to Congress

This day in tech from Wired. This is a good article on how the video game rating system came about, here's the link http://www.wired.com/thisdayintech/2009/07/dayintech_0729/. I was working at Sculptured Software during this time and we were working on the Super NES version of Mortal Kombat for Acclaim.

I remember there was a lot of talk about that game. Was Tipper Gore involved in the conversation about video games at this point?

You gotta love Tipper Gore... NOT! No she was trying to take down that crazy music that the kids like. You can thank Tipper for the ratings system on CDs. Joe Lieberman is the one that thinks video games are turning your kids in to killing machines.
